Performance in response to NVFAA’s Art Optimism: Focus on Climate Change and Sustainability

Jane Franklin Dance returns to the Athenaeum with new works that respond to the current exhibit Art Optimism: Focus on Change and Sustainability.

  • Rain or Shine – Dance is inspired by artworks from NVFAA’s current exhibit “Art Optimism: Focus on Change and Sustainability.  The shared leitmotif is one of optimism for improving our footprint on the planet. Artworks by Steve Ferretti Capture the Tides, Capture the Sun, Capture the Wind, Rosa Inez Vera Lotus Fields III, Sally Kaufman Rebirth, Marty Ittner Tangled Up in Blue and Suzanne Yurdin Shadows Run Deep motivate responses in time.
  • Rob Priore’s Esta Vida explores themes of commitment and family.  Surprising movement and group partnership echo music by Silvia Perez Cruz and Silvania Estrada.
  • Scientists, naturalists and hobbyists comment on flight, migration and climate. Barrier draws a picture of connections to earth and to each other. People — like animals — move to react to a push or pull in their natural habitats. As we confront global issues, JFD invites audiences to experience the real, personal journeys of the people and ecosystems in our midst.
  • Post performance refreshments conclude the afternoon.  Learn about plans for upcoming productions and chat one-on-one with the director and performers.
