"What Comes Around: Dancing Through Cycles,"
developed for the Kennedy Center's Professional Development
Opportunities for Teachers Program by workshop leader
Jane Franklin debuted in January 2004. This lively participatory
workshop has visited several Virginia locations including
the GATEWAY Gifted and Talented Program for Franklin
County Schools in Rocky Mount and the Carlisle School
in Martinsville. Click

Workshop
"Speaking Dancing": Explore
the magic of words and movement. Observe, analyze, interpret
words and movement in ways that speak of who we are,
alone or with a group. Language Arts, Poetry connections.
"Choreography"
for student groups can be designed for a specific
location.
"(Jane
Franklin's) work with a group of student dancers, developing
a site-specific intermission piece, was outstanding.
Participants learned volumes about composition, performance,
and environmental work. Many commented on the
strong links to what they are learning in their compostion
class. The piece was a wonderful addition to the
New Dance Festival concert, bringing awareness to a
generally overlooked space, and highlighting a lovely
late summer evening."
