Young Dancers Project
Young Dancers Project classes include dance technique, creative problem solving, and rehearsal for a performance with JFD company members. Young dancers participate in small groups under the supportive direction of several experienced adult dance educators.

A culminating performance of the Fall 2006 Young Dancers Project takes place as part of Dance Sampler on Dec 2, 2006. For additional information and for enrollment, call 703-298-3235. We are looking for stories from people age 45 and above about clearing/cleaning out an attic from a childhood home. If you've had this experience and would like to share it, please write . Please include your daytime telephone number. We are looking for both the stories and the people behind the stories to be a part of a premiere work.

Out of Town in September
Jane Franklin Dance is on the road in September with performances at the Charlotte Dance Festival in North Carolina on September 9 at 7:00 pm and September 10 at 5:00 pm. The mission of the Charlotte Dance Festival is to present a variety of quality dance genres in a three different atmospheres: formal theater, outdoor stage and site-specific. Applications poured in from Texas all the way to Connecticut. Participants underwent a difficult adjudication process in order to have their work presented and JFD is pleased to be selected to be a part of the 1st Annual Charlotte Dance Festival.
The company travels to Radford University for a performance on September 11. Part of our residency involves rehearsal time with danah bella who is participating as a contributing choreographer for our collaborative project Found "in the gap between art and life," premiering at Dance Place in January 2007 as part of our 10th Anniversary Season.
On September 23, JFD performs at 7:30 pm for Arts Alive in a new facility in West Point, Virginia, the W.T. Robinson Civic Auditorium and Fine Arts Center at 1040 Thompson Avenue. Call 804-843-3475 for tickets.
On September 28 at 5:30 pm, the company joins other distinctive groups in DC Dances Showcase at the Reginald Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture in Baltimore at 830 E Pratt St. The evening includes performances by

Dance Sampler celebrates the great variety of dance that the DC community offers, all in a fun filled day of unique classes and a fabulous showcase of distinctive DC dance artists. Whether you're a beginner, a pro, or if you just enjoy watching dance on stage, Dance Sampler has something for you. Workshops are held throughout the day, for all ages and levels of experience, and are led by the evening's featured choreographers. The festival, presented by Jane Franklin Dance, takes places at Gunston Theater One, 2700 South Lang Street, Arlington, Virginia.

Cultural Arts Center, Glen Allen
Jane Franklin Dance conducted workshops at Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen, Virginia on July 17 and Aug 17. We wish to thank Amy Perdue and Henrico County for this opportunity to work with campers for five consecutive summers. Campers watch company members perform, then actively participate in dance making. Wonderful creations result as kids learn and participate cooperatively We can't wait for next summer.

Dance Sampler - Call for Choreography Submissions
Submit your choreography for Dance Sampler, a day long festival on Dec 2, 2006. To apply please send a VHS tape or DVD of your completed choreography, a brief description of a proposed workshop, a $25 submission fee, and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials to: Jane Franklin Dance, 3700 S Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington VA 22206. All entries receive a Festival Pass, value $30.
Submission deadline is Sept 25, 2005. Selected choreographers receive publicity, technical support, and a $150 stipend. Workshops and the performance take place at Gunston Theater One, Arlington. For additional information call 703-298-3235. Submission form. |
