Dance Sampler

Dance Sampler celebrates the great variety of dance that the DC community offers, all in a fun filled day of unique classes and a fabulous showcase of distinctive dance artists. Observe the classes in the comfy seating of Gunston Theater One, or just get up on stage and get moving. Experience what it is like to dance on stage, to negotiate wing space, to avoid collisions or to share your weight with someone you don't know well. In the evening you can see instructors offer up their ideas in a performance. The evening performance features seven dance companies and work selected by the adjudication panel, Maida Withers, Artistic Director of Maida Withers Dance Construction Company and Johanna Seltzer, Project Director at Dance/MetroDC.
Whether you're a beginner, a pro, or if you just enjoy watching dance on stage, Dance Sampler has something for you.

Arts Alive in West Point and DC Dances

Jane Franklin Dance performed for Arts Alive in West Point Virginia at the Robinson Civic and Fine Arts Center on Sept 23.  What a great space, wonderful audience and superb hospitality.  We extend our thanks to Dawn Greggs, Bev Hammond, the  Virginia Commission for the Arts Touring, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program.

On Sept 28 we joined six other dance companies to present DC Dances, an independent showcase of the Southern Arts Federation Performing Arts Exchange.  It was a group effort to publicize and produce the show with coordinating support coming from Dance/MetroDC.  Thank you to all the artists involved.  It was a lovely space, a receptive audience and a rewarding experience.  We also thank the Virginia Commission for the Arts for a Technical Assistance Grant that made our participation possible.

"Found" underway !

Jane Franklin Dance's collaborative project Found, commissioned by the Virginia Commission for the Arts is underway!

Collaboration is part of the mission of Jane Franklin Dance and collaborators have included poets, musicians, composers, multi-media and visual artists.  Now Jane Franklin Dance strides into new territory by collaborating with other choreographers.  Using 'found' objects as the source, we have been working with choregraphers danah bella, Laura Schandelmeier & Stephen Clapp and Margot Greenlee and with musicians from Basso Moderno and Great Noise Ensemble   Save the date and see the results at Dance Place on Jan 20 & 21, 2007.

Special Thanks

We wish to extend sincere thanks to the Arlington Community Foundation for support of community engagement projects for 2006-07.  We are grateful to receive this support in order to continue our work in the community.
