"People
go to poetry readings mostly to hear a poet read their work.
More interesting to me is to hear others read my work. When
I see what Jane Franklin Dance can do to coax the poems into
dance and song, I am gratified to see that my little creations
can indeed survive in the world on their own."

JFD's "Transportation" residency at Glebe Elementary in Arlington March 21-April 6 was comprised of fifteen workshops and two performances. During the residency, JFD members guided Glebe's kindegartners through movement to strengthen learning about travel on land, sea and in the air. Performances on April 6 delighted parents with creativity and imagination - from seaweed, to rockets launched, to rotating wheels, all done in cooperation with class members. Lynn Westergren made our residency a breeze. Thanks again to Lynn and the wonderful staff and faculty at Glebe!
Out in the Community
Our workshops for Senior Adults are thriving and engaging more Seniors than ever!. Here's where we've been this spring: at Arlington Mill March 1-29 and May 16-30, at Carver March 1-15 and for a special presentation on April 27, and at Langston Brown May 9-30. Thanks to Arlington Community Foundation and the Washington Forrest Foundation for making our work possible.
Home Turf
On April 22 JFD performed at Gunston Theater One. The day started with a workshop for Young Dancers. During the workshop, participants learned select segments which they then performed at the matinee Jazz on Foot, a dance performance tracing the history of jazz music. The evening's Dancing the Page was the culminating performance of a year long poetry/ music/ dance collaboration. If you missed this performance, other opportunities arise in June and July. It's never the same dance twice as change is an inevitable.

Praise for JFD
"On the days that Jane’s troupe was at the Center, fifteen to twenty seniors could be seen on their feet, moving and dancing with the members of the dance company. The others were watching with interest. It is a tribute to the young dancers that they were able to inspire people who sometimes have difficulty walking to get out of their chairs and move their bodies in harmony with both the music and the trained dancers who accompanied them. It is also to their credit that in our multi-ethnic center, they were able to engage and include many participants who speak no English."
Nelly Urbach
