"You know, what I liked about Jane Franklin's class was that it wasn't really
teaching, but more exercising your dancing skills."

Announcements

JFD's school performance Jazz on Foot that traces the history of jazz music from its roots in 19th Century New Orleans, to the northward migration to cities like Chicago and New York, and to the Bebop era of the 1950's, has been traveling to Montgomery County Public Schools and to Virginia through partnering organizations the Arlington Humanities Project and the Alexandria Commission.  Recent performances have taken place at Kenmore Middle School and Taylor Elementary in Arlington, and Gaithersburg High School.   We are seeking additional hosting schools in Alexandria.  If you would like information about Jazz on Foot or other performances for your school, call 703-298-3235.

Many places, many spaces

Jane Franklin Dance is all around town in the next few weeks.  Look for us at the following venues and here's what we have coming up.

Bridges to Contemporary Arts

Jane Franklin Dance performs for Bridges To Contemporary Arts, a program series at Arlington Arts Center that provides a space to meet and connect with art, artists, curators, critics, poets, musicians, filmmakers, collectors, art lovers, neighbors and new acquaintances.  Enjoy refreshments and see a performance that combines dance, music and three dimensional artworks, merging everyday objects and unexpected relationships. Found (parts) is a site specific version of the dance company’s work that travels throughout the galleries.

Temporal Interference

Jane Franklin Dance explores the space memory occupies in a collaboration with digital artist Bryan Leister and composer Gina Biver.

Using live video, electroacoustic software and a Theremin, dancers will carve out an environment of sound and color. Biver's compositions will be reinterpreted as the dancers move through space, creating a unique experience of media and dance. The media installation will be available for audience interaction between performances.
